When we developed the OW6 beginner's tipper we thought of different aspects: The conical shape prevents it from slipping through your hand, along with a central ring that helps with the grip. The stick is thicker and therefore heavier at the two ends, so rotating is easier. This allows for a nice momentum which helps for a flowing beat but is not so heavy that control is impaired.
